The daughters of Carmel Mata Province devote their lives and energies to the people of Chotanagpur. Chotanagpur includes portions of Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh. The plateau has lost much of its native vegetation due to centuries of intense farming, while some significant forests remain. The Chotanagpur plateau is known as the "mineral storehouse" because it is rich in minerals such as mica, bauxite, copper, limestone, iron ore, and coal. It accounts for a large portion of the country's mineral output. The people's primary occupation is agriculture, yet there are various industries and mines in the area. Santhals, Mundas, Oraons, Hos, Gonds, Kharias, Bhuiyans, Bhumij, and other tribes live on the Chotanagpur plateau. CMC daughters serve in 17 stations to bring them to the mainstream of society by lifting their educational, social, and economical conditions. It is life-fulfilling to work with people of this area as they are very simple and welcoming. Their hospitality is praise-worthy.
